The Works of Adrienne Simms

Chronicler of San Francisco Night Life
San Francisco has historically taken in freaks from all over the world. A port city on the West Coast, it has opened its doors to people of differing ethnicities, and sexual orientations, as well as sailors, strippers, poets and artists. The tolerant atmosphere, and old world charm of the city has given rise to an established Gothic community. Currently, San Francisco is also enjoying a revival of one of its indigenous arts, that of burlesque and cabaret. These are the scenes that inspire me, and the kind of flamboyant people who populate my paintings. The nightlife glitterati are complelling to me not only because I enjoy their aesthetic, but also because they are eager to communicate something about themselves, and I am more then willing to listen.
